After my workout yesterday, I was almost in tears. Not because it was really hard, which is was, but because I realized something about myself. I now have a confident I haven’t had in awhile.

This whole journey I have been afraid of others. Afraid of what they might say, what they might think, and how they would treat me. Why? Because I knew it would happen. I have heard plenty of people badmouthing healthy eating, working out, and Beachbody programs..

So, instead of being proud of this amazing decision I made, I hid it. I quietly made changes that ultimately changed my way of life for the better. I didn’t want to talk about it for fear of a negative reaction. Slowly I started to want to share my excitement of working out, my good mood, my energy. People share their lives, the good and the bad, all the time, I normally wasn’t one of them. This was something too good in my life to keep it hidden.

Of course there are people who make comments and judge. There always will be no matter what you do! I let this get to me for awhile. I didn’t understand, I am doing something good. How can someone judge that? Why can’t they be happy for me? Why are they finding negative in something that is so positive?

Then something hit me just a few months ago. Why do I care? Like I said, I am doing something good. I am fueling my body with healthy foods. I am exercising to keep my body healthy. I am working to have a future that is active & healthy, not spent at the doctors.

I get comments all the time…
“Wouldn’t you rather sleep in?”
“You need to eat!”
“You have to treat yourself sometimes.”
“What can you eat? Are you on a diet?”
“You can’t be so strict about your food.”
“Just skip the workout.”

These questions and comments used to upset me more. People don’t need to understand why you decided to live a healthier lifestyle. I do hope they are supportive though. We could be doing a lot worse to our bodies!

Today’s workout is very challenging. It is one that I put off for a few hours yesterday because I knew it would kick my butt. 36 minutes of non-stop. I post a lot about feeling good & being so happy and motivated after my workouts. I want to show you what I do. It’s not all dancing around and having fun. It’s hard work, heart pumping, shortness of breath fun.

I decided today is the day. I am going to share on live the workout that pushes me to dig deeper & not just kind of do the moves. So…I clicked that live button & gave it what I had!

Now, I don’t have a huge following, so there were like 6 people watching & that is fine. I was empowered. I took a huge step out of my comfort zone. I was showing what my body can do. I was showing what is possible when you commit and show up! The people who did comment made my day. Anyone who ever shows support to my journey fills my heart with joy. It means so much that people go out of their way to reach out and say something positive. Luckily, there has been a lot more positive interactions than negative!

When I did my first workout a little over a year ago, I definitely would not have posted anything about it! I remember dreading posting my sweaty selfie in my accountability group after. Now, I look forward to my workouts & sharing my journey. I have not only lost weight & inches, I have gained confidence and maybe a little bit of extrovert (like an extremely tiny amount). Sharing my story doesn’t scare me as much as it used to.

I realized after my workout today, I am starting to be more open and able to come out of my shell a little more. It really isn’t just about weight. I have been able to make changes in my life that are amazing.

Sure, it still sometimes sucks when you hear negative comments or little remarks. But then I remember that I am doing something amazing for me, my future, my life.

Never be afraid of taking that first step because of what someone might say. There is always someone hating, but I can guarantee you, there will be a lot more people cheering you on!

Shakeology Myths – Busted!

It’s no lie, I drink the amazingly delicious superfood shake, Shakeology. At first I hid this fact because I knew people judged it without actually ever learning about it or trying it. I was one of the people who thought omg this is so expensive and there is no way it would work.

I was totally prepared to hate Shakeology and stop it after a month or two. Well, it is over a year later & I haven’t stopped. I love the product so much that I decided to sign up as a coach.

I wake up with energy now & have sustained energy throughout the day.  I get excited to drink my chocolate, peanut butter shake in the morning. It is my guilty pleasure.

One of our most successful Team Beachbody Coaches wanted to take a moment to share her thoughts on some of the most common Shakeology myths floating around. Here’s what she had to say!

 Shakeology Myths You Might Have Heard:
  • Shakeology is just a protein shake.
  • Shakeology doesn’t contain whole-food ingredients.
  • Shakeology is expensive.
  • Shakeology is only for weight loss.

Myth #1: Shakeology Is Just a Protein Shake

Meaning just a shake that provides extra protein. I can’t blame the general public for thinking this since “protein shake” has become nearly an interchangeable term for anyshake.

But all shakes are not created equal — especially ones that contain superfoods. Shakeology is a very nutrient-dense shake.

You’d have to eat a whole lot of different foods to get the fiber, phytonutrients, protein, vitamins and minerals in a single glass of Shakeology — and it would be tough to do that for fewer than 170 calories.

Truth be told, the majority of people are way more nutrient deficient than they are protein deficient.

Myth #2: Shakeology Is Just a Bunch of Extracts, With No Whole-Food Ingredients

Whenever it’s possible and sustainable for the formula, the superfoods in Shakeology are whole-ingredient powders processed in a way to help preserved in their nutrient value.

How Does Shakeology Work?

I am going to be honest, real honest. I was super stressed and cried a lot last week. Embarrassing? Yes. Real life? Oh yeah.

Last weekend, we rescued a Lab mix named Dixie. She is sweet, energetic, & totally new to us! Neither my husband or I has ever had a dog, so we are learning every minute. I guess I didn’t realize how time and energy intensive having a dog is. Last week, I was way overwhelmed with that first week with our 1 year old pup who is eager to explore and play. I also started grad school last week. I am so excited to begin this educational chapter in my life, but I am very well aware that this is going to be very stressful and take up a lot of my time.

Between Dixie, grad school, work, and general life…I was overwhelmed and over it. My tears were flowing, my lists were long, and I didn’t know what to do first.

I stopped at Jewel on my way to school on Tuesday & bought a bunch of candy. I ate it all in my car…alone. The worst part? I didn’t even enjoy it because that is what always happens when I binge. I just kind of go outside of my body and eat. There is no enjoyment, and I am left feeling horrible after.

So, after a not so stellar week, I decided to take back control and work on my stress level this week. So, I bring to you, lazy girl meal prep.

I had no energy or patience to go through my normal meal prep of a few different full recipes. I knew I needed to keep it simple so I wouldn’t stress out too much, and it was one less thing I needed to worry about. The food groups needed is laid out really well with 80 Day Obsession meal plan.

For my post-workout meal I need a red (protein), green (vegetable), yellow (carb), and purple (fruit). I always eat veggie loaded egg cups (red & green) with roasted sweet potatoes (yellow) and a cut up apple (purple). These take me about 5 minutes to prep, and 15 minutes to cook, easy!

For lunches, I need a red (protein), green (vegetable), and yellow (carb). I grilled up veggie burgers for my red, steamed broccoli for my green, and portioned out black beans for my yellow. It took me about 10 minutes….yes!

Sticking to the plan doesn’t need to be hours in the kitchen or elaborate meals. You need to monitor your own stress and energy level…once you make this experience something you can’t handle (hours in the kitchen, complicated meals, food you don’t like) you will never stick with it! I normally don’t mind doing more complex recipes for my lunches, but this week I knew I needed that extra time to relax.

A great aspect about 80 Day Obsession is the emphasis on self care. Sundays are specifically for stretching and foam rolling those sore muscles. It is recommended to take epsom salt baths, get massages (I wish I could that more!), and get plenty of sleep. Self care also means managing your stress levels…which I didn’t do so well last week.

Everyday is a learning experience, in all aspects of life. I am prepped for the week, more of a schedule laid out to get my grad work done, and I am ready to make improvements so there are less tears (that’s always a win).

I am LOVING this program & how much it is helping me becoming stronger physically and mentally. Despite last week, I am making so much progress. I am bumping up my weights already, down 2 inches & 4 pounds…all in 15 days!

Sometimes you need to step back and do some lazy girl meal prep. I am still on plan & eating foods that are on the approved list. You need to make sure that you are taking care of yourself mind, body, & soul.

All In

I am all in. For once in my life, I feel that I can confidently say that I am all in.

What am I talking about?

80 Day Obsession.

Yes, you have probably seen my posts about this new program or even seen other people’s posts, and I am sorry if you are annoyed by it. I am so excited, and I am actually not going to apologize for feeling amazing and being genuinely excited to start this program!

I always had the tendency to start something and never finish. I would get halfway through and that was okay with me. Well it wasn’t okay with me, it made me feel horrible when I quit, but I did it anyways. I made excuses and believed them.

Even with my fitness journey, I would do the workouts and follow the nutrition (kinda). I would get results, but nothing like what I could if I went all in.

So…this program…this program has me more motivated and focused than ever before, and the full program hasn’t even been released yet! I want to see what I can do, and I know there will be challenges, but that’s part of life, right?

Now, I have been on my fitness journey for a year. I signed up for Beachbody January 31, 2017. I have lost 35 pounds and built muscle. I am able to complete more difficult workouts. I have dialed in my eating and nutrition. The reason I say all of this is because 80 Day Obsession is a more difficult program an requires focused nutrition and longer, more advanced workouts.

I have plenty of things I could make into excuses as to why I CAN’T do this, but instead, I am feeling ready to kick some major butt because I know I CAN! I am at a place where I know that I can push myself. This isn’t where everyone is and that is totally fine. You have to make the best decision for you and your body. If I wanted to do this program a year ago, I am pretty sure it wouldn’t be the best fit for me. Some people may need to build up to this program. If you want something bad enough, then you will do whatever it takes to get there.

I have been studying the meal plan and getting my body ready for longer workouts. I have been doing the program, A Little Obsessed, to get me ready to use the bands and sliders and get used to some of the move combinations. I am pretty sure my husband is about to lose his mind with how many videos I am watching and all the work I am doing to get ready. This is something I feel strongly about, and the prepping will end eventually!

Seriously though, I want to challenge myself and see what I can do. So, I am going all in. There have been plentyyy of people complaining about timed nutrition (eating meals every 2-3 hours), fitting in longer workouts, not being able to schedule this with their lifestyle/job. There have also been people that are telling me I don’t have to follow it exactly because it is just too hard. I get it, it’s a change and something new. It is also a chance to soar and see what you are capable of.

So, yes, I am committing to 80 challenging workouts that will span over a time period of 93 days. Yes, I am committing to timed nutrition. Yes, my alarm will be set for 4:45am, and I will crush those workouts before work and Saturday mornings. Yes, I will not cheat as much as this may kill me. Yes, I am committing to myself and to results! Tomorrow is Day 1, and I am ready to rock it!

I am all in.

A Year in Review…2017

As cheesy as New Years may be with all the resolutions, new year new me, and trips down memory lane…I love it.

As I was telling my husband yesterday, who doesn’t share my New Years thoughts, it’s a chance to give yourself a *somewhat* fresh start. Yes, you have to go back to work and paying bills and general adulting, but it’s a chance to say I am going to do something differently. We don’t get these moments in life, so I take advantage of moments I can make a fresh start.

This is the same reason I have come to like Monday’s. It’s a time to look at last week, the good and the bad, and commit to a new week. Hopefully even better!

Last year I had the same resolution I had every year for awhile. Get healthy, be skinny for once! A month into 2017 I was crying on the couch because I had become an unmotivated, constantly tired, hating myself, miserable, and an extremely self conscious woman. This wasn’t part of my resolution at all.

After finally deciding that I needed to invest in myself and my health so much changed! I signed up for a Beachbody challenge pack, super skeptical and expecting to cancel within a month or two. Little did I know I would finally find my stride and become someone I only dreamed of.

After just two months of working out and eating better I lost 12 of the 30 pounds I gained after I got married. I found myself in a better mood, happy to go to work, motivated to become a better wife and teacher. All of this from just eating healthier and working out 30 minutes a day.

When I look at everything I accomplished this year, I’m amazed. I started this journey to be a healthier and happier me February 1st, and since then I lost 35 pounds, have baby biceps coming in, ran a 5k running 10 minute miles, have pants that are loose and I don’t have to squeeze into them, and I have helped a few other women start their journey! But most importantly I am happy, healthy, and wake up everyday excited, motivated, and full of love for others and myself.

I have realized that my resolutions to lose weight and be skinny were rediculous. I have lost the word skinny and replaced it with healthy. I like ice cream and tacos. I’m not giving up foods that make me smile and do the happy dance. Life is about balance. Yes, I want to continue to build muscle and tone up, but I know my body and I’m not going to push it to something it just isn’t.

This upocming year I am focusing on health and happiness again. I’m not putting a number on my resolutions.  I want to run more, build muscle, cook new recipes, and continue to be the best me and happy. Focus on challenging yourself to be better. Turn your resolutions and goals into positive statements that build you up.

Make 2018 a year for you! We always forget about ourselves, but if we’d aren’t in a good spot, how can we live our best life?

So here’s to 2018. Here’s to being happy & fit!

Taco Tuesday

If you scroll through my Pinterest “Yummy” board you will see many taco recipes. If you ask me what I want for dinner, chances are I will say tacos. If I could eat one thing for the rest of my life…you guessed it, tacos. Needless to say, but I love tacos!

In honor of Taco Tuesday and all the amazing possibilities that come with this day, tacos will be made tonight, and I will share with you some easy, healthy recipes.

Tacos can be a quick, healthy meal if you just look around. There are so many protein options and ways to get vegetables in there too! Give some of these recipes a try! I found this awesome list from Health.com that has 19 Healthy Taco Recipes.

Tonight I will be making these Adobo-Lime Chicken Tacos – I am using my Instant Pot to cook the chicken. It makes it so easy to cook and shred for this recipe!
I put my chicken breasts in the Instant Pot with 1 cup of water and 1 teaspoon of the adobo sauce. I set the Instant Pot on high pressure for 15 minutes. When the timer goes off, do a quick release. You can shred the chicken right in your Instant Pot using forks.

The recipe is simple and healthy! Use the broccoli slaw in the recipe, you could add tomatoes, lettuce, and avocado.

My Sunday

Some Sunday’s are my rest days from workouts. I never take a rest day from prepping and planning.

When I decided to live a healthier life, I didn’t realize how much work the food part would be. It’s not that it is hard, but it takes work to get used to it and to do it right. The result of all of this? A week of healthy meals and snacks that make you feel good, get you closer to your goals, and saves you money.

When you sit down and look at your week ahead, plan your meals, and then shop for it all, it takes the guess work out of lunches and dinners. It is important because you could be rocking those workouts, but your food choices could make it so you don’t see results. This has become easier and easier for me as I have done it week after week. You need to make a healthy lifestyle in order to really make an impact. This isn’t a diet for a month or two, its a lifestyle change that takes time. I find that if I don’t prep on Sunday, my whole week is off!

Here are some things I do on Sunday to help me get ready for the week:

I adapted some recipes I saw for Chicken Enchilada Soup to add more vegetables. I have found myself struggling to get enough veggies in. Hope you enjoy! If you are using a crock pot, cook on high for 5 hours 🙂
